THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO REDESIGN RUSTON AFTER THE TORNADO OF 2019. THROUGH THE USE OF EXTENSIVE RESEARCH Of HUMAN ACTIVITY, existing CIRCULATION PATHS, AND PRESENT FLOOD PLANES, WE WERE ABLE TO DERIVE A CONNECTIVE SOLUTION. the SOLUTION TAKES THE SPAN OF 1.5 MILES AND ALLOWS PEDESTRIANS TO CIRCULATE FREELY ABOUT FOUR QUADRANTS. WITHIN THE QUADRANTS ARE ADDITIONAL PROGRAMMATIC ELEMENTS DESIGNED TO BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER AND SERVE AS A SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION TO THE EXISTING WATER AND ENERGY ISSUES. SUSTAINABLE AND INNOVATIVE, THIS DESIGN SERVES AS AN ALL-IN-ONE ELEMENT OF ACTIVITY.

BRIDGE:
THE PROPOSED BRIDGE SPANS 1.5 MILES IN DIAMETER. ITS PARAMETRIC, INNOVATIVE, AND SUSTAINABLE DESIGN INCORPORATE THE USE OF SOLAR, WATER, AND AIR PURIFICATION SYSTEMS SCATTERED THROUGHOUT ITS COURSE. IT CONSISTS OF 3 LANES: PEDESTRIAN, CYCLING, AND EMERGENCY. ALL OF WHICH ARE OUTLINED THROUGH ITS USE OF COLOR. AT NIGHT, THE BRIDGE BECOMES LIT AND PROVIDES SAFETY THROUGH THE USE OF GLOWING SOLAR-POWERED LED LIGHTS WHICH ARE LOCATED WITHIN THE PATH AND PARAMETRIC TREES.

LOCATION STUDIES:
THROUGH INTENSIVE STUDIES, THE MAIN POINTS OF INTEREST WERE NARROWED DOWN TO THOSE MOSt FREQUENTED BY PEDESTRIANS. SUCH SPOTS SHOWED A CLUSTER-LIKE PATTERN, HIGHLIGHTING OUR FOCAL AREAS. CONCLUDING RUSTON'S HOTSPOTS PROVED A LACK OF CIRCULATION TO EACH. THE CONCLUSION WAS TO PROVIDE EASY, ACCESSIBLE, AND SAFE CIRCULATION FOR PEDESTRIANS.
RESEARCH CONCLUSIONS:
RUSTON LACKS PEDESTRIAN CIRCULATION AROUND THE MAIN STREETS. THE PROPOSAL ALLOWS FOOT TRAFFIC TO SAFELY TRAVEL NORTH TO SOUTH AND EAST TO WEST OVER THE PROPOSED BRIDGE.
03: GRASSHOPPER DEFINITION


CIRCULATION FORMATION:
USING OUR INITIAL FINDINGS, WE ARTICULATED A GRASSHOPPER DEFINITION THAT CREATES CIRCULATION AROUND AND THROUGH MAIN POINTS. PLUGGING IN THE MAIN FOCAL POINTS AS WELL AS AN APPROXIMATE RADIUS IN WHICH PEDESTRIANS CIRCULATE, IT WAS ABLE TO GENERATE THE SHAPE THAT BECAME THE BASE FOR OUR PEDESTRIAN CONNECTIVITY AND DIVISION OF PROGRAMMATIC ELEMENTS.

Water Purification System
SOLAR ENERGY AND RAINWATER COLLECTION:
TWO TYPES OF "TREES" ARE SCATTERED THROUGHOUT THE PROGRAM ELEMENTS AND INFRASTRUCTURE. THE SOLAR TREES USE SOLAR PANELS TO COLLECT SOLAR ENERGY WHICH IS THEN TRANSFORMED INTO ELECTRICITY FOR the SURROUNDING SPACES. THE WATER HARVESTING TREES FUNNEL RAINWATER INTO ITS INDIVIDUAL STORAGE COMPARTMENT AND OUT INTO AN UNDERGROUND PURIFICATION SYSTEM WHICH DELIVERS THE WATER TO SURROUNDING ELEMENTS SUCH AS THE WATER TOWER, WATER PARK, AND LOCAL RESIDENTS.

1) PARK:
THIS SITE IS DESIGNED TO SERVE AS A RECREATIONAL SPACE FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES. ACTIVITIES INCLUDE BASKETBALL COURTS, SOCCER FIELDS, WATER FEATURES, A CHILDREN'S PARK, AND OUTDOOR AREAS TO REST OR FOR LEISURE. IT IS LOCATED BY THE RUSTON WATER TOWER.



2) SHOPPING CENTER:
THE SHOPPING CENTER IS REPURPOSED AS A MULTIPURPOSE SPACE WITH COMMERCIAL ZONING. THE REVITALIZED AREA WOULD INCLUDE NEW RETAIL AND DINING OPTIONS AS WELL AS A SKATEPARK LOCATED IN FRONT OF THE BUILDING.




3) FOOD TRUCK PARK:
THIS PROGRAMMATIC ELEMENT SERVES AS A SPACE FOR ENTERTAINMENT, RENEWAL, AND REVENUE. THE SITE INCLUDES AN INDOOR / OUTDOOR FARMERS MARKET, ENTERTAINMENT STAGE, WATER RECYCLING PAVILION, AND FOOD TRUCK CIRCULATION PATH, PROVIDING ACTIVITIES FOR EVERY AGE.

BRIDGE DIVISIONS:
THE BRIDGE IS DIVIDED INTO THREE LANES: SLOW, MEDIUM, AND FAST TRAFFIC. THIS CORRELATES TO WALKING, BIKE, AND CART TRAFFIC.

COMPOSITION:
COMPRISED OF SEVERAL LAYERS, THE PHYSICAL MODEL BUILDS ON THE EXISTING CITY OF RUSTON, HIGHLIGHTING THE MOST FREQUENTED AREAS AND HIGHLIGHTS THE PROPOSED CONNECTIVE SOLUTION.
